Preston Lacemakers are a friendly group of people who meet to share their enthusiasm and enjoyment in the art and craft of lace, in all its variations. Our group includes young and old and beginners to experienced. Throughout the year we have talks about and workshops in both lace and other craft techniques. We also promote lace through exhibitions and giving demonstrations.

Christmas Party - 7 December 2013

Next Meeting 3 August 2013 - Open Meeting

Thanks to Sheila Sturrock for a very enjoyable workshop at our last meeting on 6 July.  Sheila taught a large group of members how to do Nanduti Lace, which is a needle lace from Paraguay.  Many members were delighted to complete their sample piece of lace within the day.  Photographs of the workshop, including samples of Sheila's work, are posted in Preston Lacemakers' Flickr account  The photographs can be accessed here or by a link from this blog entitled Preston Lacemakers Photographs.

Next Meeting - Lace from the Australian Bush

At our next meeting on Saturday 1 June, at 11:00, Jenny Rees will be talking about her experiences in Australia and her book ' Lace from the Australian Bush'.  She will sign copies of her book and will help anyone who is making any of the patterns from the book.  Larkholme Lace will also be selling lace supplies.  Everyone is welcome to join us for this terrific opportunity to hear Jenny and to purchase supplies, whether members or not.

Next Meeting 4 May: Empress Mills

Christine Driver will be giving a talk at 11:00 on Saturday 4 May about the history of Empress Mills, threads and useful tips.  She will also bring threads for members to purchase.  Happy lacemaking!

Anna Halikova Course 23 & 24 April 2013

Anna Halikova is an internationally famous Czech lacemaker and Preston Lacemakers have been fortunate to be able to arrange a course whilst she is in the UK.  We have three places remaining if anyone is interested in attending the course on 23 and 24 April 2013.  Further details are available on our workshop page by clicking here or by contacting the secretary, Christine Keber, on 01772 339913.

Leyland Lacemakers' Kitty Mason Course

Leyland Lacemakers have arranged a two day course by Kitty Mason, to be held 19 and 20 June 2013 in the Methodist Church, Turpin Green Lane, Leyland, Lancashire from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Kitty will teach beginners to more advanced on a range of laces from Torchon to Flanders. The cost will be £35.00 including tea and coffee.  If you are interested in attending the course, please contact Kath by email, address kathgrnwd@gmail.com.

Annual General Meeting 2 March 2013 11:00

During our next meeting we shall hold our Annual General Meeting.  This will start at 11.00 am and will be followed by a jacob's join finger buffet, so remember to bring along some food and something to drink (hot drinks will be available as usual).  If you have not received your agenda and papers, contact Christine on 01772 339913 as soon as possible.

After lunch, Dianne Derbyshire will give a talk on the History of Needlelace.  She will bring samples of lace from the lace collection at Gawthorpe Hall.

Anyone wishing to attend can join the group or attend as a visitor for £1.00.

Next Meeting - Saturday 2 February 2013

Our meeting on 2 February 2013 is an open meeting for you to make progress on your own lace projects, or perhaps to put the final touches to your lace bookmark for the group's Guild piece.

Please bring along examples of your Bedfordshire lace to display in our Bedfordshire lace exhibition at the February meeting.

If you have not yet received your Christmas bobbin, Christine is hoping to remember to bring them to this meeting!!  You will also need to collect your AGM agenda in preparation for March.

If you want to have a go at lace, we'd be delighted to see you as a visitor for the day.  You can talk to members, see lace being made and have a go yourself.
